Mark Robins: Is optimistic the club will improve on last season

Taking over from Simon Grayson, the Terriers boss endured a difficult end to the Championship season which culminated in a relegation dog-fight with Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.

Despite the nervy finish last season, Robins has high hopes for what is becoming an increasingly competitive league.

He told Sky Sports News Radio: "Realistically we have to improve on what we did last season. We've worked hard and recruited pretty well over the summer.

"We're trying to pass the ball and do things the way I'd like them to be done and play the game in an attractive style, but we've got to win alongside that. It's over to the players now.

"We've been steadily improving but pre-season is about getting fitness into the legs and for us it's very important to get them as fit as we possibly can do without picking up too many injuries, but we've done pretty well.

"It will be very competitive this season - that's the nature of the Championship. You've got more clubs in there with financial clout and the parachute payments having an effect, but it comes down to 11 players on the day.

"Anything can happen. I think we spent 26 minutes of the final game in the bottom three, but I hope that's not the case this season and have a good season.

"The first game is against Nottingham Forest and last time I was there in February I lost 6-1. It's a really tough place to go and a tough start to the season, but it's one we're really looking forward to."
