Clucas only joined Mansfield earlier this summer after deciding to leave Hereford United upon the expiration of his contract.
The 22-year-old attracted the interest of a number of clubs before opting to sign a two-year deal at League Two new boys Mansfield.
Clucas is believed to have come to the attention of Forest boss Billy Davies after impressing in a friendly between the two clubs earlier this month.
The former Leicester City youngster also caught the eye in a midweek friendly win over Peterborough with two goals and Stags boss Paul Cox has admitted Clucas has the potential to play at a higher level than League Two.
Forest are keen to bolster their wide-men options and they could be ready to test Mansfield's resolve to hang onto Clucas.
