Lewis Buxton: Relieved to have overcome injury and illness

The 29-year-old, last season's player of the year for the Owls, made his first appearance of the current campaign in the derby draw at Leeds on Saturday.

He produced an impressive display after locking down the opponents' attacking threat down the right.

"It's been frustrating to say the least," Buxton told the club's official website.

"Shin splints are very painful and in Portugal I had to stop completely.

"Then, just as I was getting back into the swing of things, I had a virus. It was bizarre. I don't know what it was but it knocked me out for a week.

"But I'm fine now and glad to be back. It was a local derby last Saturday and straight in at the deep end.

"You know you're going to be struggling a bit not having had a full pre-season, but if you get the opportunity to play, you're going to take it.

"I'm like every other player, I just want to play. It was a good point we earned at Leeds and on another day we might have had all three.

"We are off the mark now and hopefully we can build on that point."
