Zola stays grounded despite start

Troy Deeney netted a hat-trick after new signing Gabrielle Angella's brace had put the hosts in the ascendancy at Vicarage Road. The Italian defender notched either side of Lewis Grabban's equaliser, with Lewis McGugan also on target as Zola's side signalled their promotion credentials by making it two wins out of two in style.

Zola warned against looking too far ahead after the game, however, and predicted tricky spells ahead for his team over the course of the campaign.

"The best of us comes when we push forward, and we need to keep doing that as much as we can," he said on club website www.watfordfc.com.

"It won't be like this every week, though. Everyone has to be calm and keep their feet on the carpet.

"It is a long season and there will be many difficulties but if we stick together on the pitch, and have the crowd vocal and on our side, like they were (yesterday), then we can go far."

Nottingham Forest and Blackpool also boasted 100 per cent records after the opening two weekends, but both left it late to triumph yesterday.

Speaking after Darius Henderson's stoppage-time strike secured a 1-0 success at Blackburn, Forest manager Billy Davies said: "I think we deserved it. This was a very close encounter.

"The second half was end to end but overall you get what you deserve and I thought Henderson got what he deserved with his performance."

Scott Wiseman's stoppage-time own goal saw Blackpool edge Barnsley 1-0 at Bloomfield Road - much to the delight of Seasiders boss Paul Ince.

"I'd pretty much resigned myself to it being a goalless draw to be honest," he said. "Though I was disappointed because I felt we created the better chances over the 90 minutes.

"You've got to keep your mind sharp though, and you never know, a chance is always likely to come at the end like that."

The Tykes' defeat left them as one of six teams yet to collect a point in the Championship.

One of those sides - Millwall - were beaten 3-0 at Ipswich, with own goals from Shane Lowry and Mark Beevers sandwiching a fine header from Tractor Boys centre-back Tommy Smith.

"I think we edged it - I don't think there would be any doubt in that," Town manager Mick McCarthy said. "It was a solid performance, though 3-0 probably put a gloss on it."

Charlton also suffered their second successive league defeat, going down 1-0 at home to Middlesbrough thanks to a Lukas Jutkiewicz goal midway through the second half.

"Sometimes there's games when you just have to accept it's not going to flow the way you want and it wasn't to be today," Addicks boss Chris Powell said.

"We didn't have that spark that I expected from our first home match of the season."

Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones insisted there was no need to panic after goals from Danny Ings and Sam Vokes condemned his side to a 2-1 loss at home to Burnley.

"We know we can do better and we will work at it," said Jones, whose team grabbed a second-half consolation through David Prutton. "We have two inexperienced full-backs, but you can't blame them for the goals today. Collectively, we should have done better."

Derby came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1, with Chris Martin scoring both goals after Jose Ulloa had put the Seagulls in front.

Albion head coach Oscar Garcia said: "We had chances to score but were not clinical, whereas Derby took their chances. We've had the lead in all three of our games so far and have ended up losing."

Yeovil's first home match in the Championship ended in a disappointing defeat to Birmingham, who left with the points after a Danny Seaborne own goal.

QPR striker Junior Hoilett cancelled out an early strike from James Vaughan to earn a point for Harry Redknapp's side at Huddersfield.

Honours also ended even at the Reebok Stadium, where Darren Pratley put Bolton ahead against the run of play before Nick Blackman equalised for the Royals from the penalty spot.
