Everton could give debuts to deadline-day midfield signings James McCarthy and Gareth Barry but on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku cannot play against his parent club.
McCarthy did suffer a slight knock on international duty for the Republic of Ireland, as did right-back Seamus Coleman, but both are in contention to play.
Midfielder Darron Gibson (knee) and defender Antolin Alcaraz (hernia) are not yet ready to return but both are back in training and close to fitness.
Chelsea could hand debuts to new signings Samuel Eto'o and Willian following their arrivals from Anzhi Makhachkala.
Fernando Torres will be hoping to keep his place in attack after impressing in the last outing against Bayern Munich in the European Super Cup before the international break.
Eden Hazard has recovered from an Achilles problem and is fit to play after being forced to withdraw from the Belgium squad for last week's win over Scotland.
