The 26-year-old goalkeeper was released from his Oakwell deal by mutual consent and, as a free agent, is free to sign for a new club outside the transfer window.
Alnwick, whose previous clubs include Sunderland and Tottenham, will provide competition for Ben Hamer and Nick Pope following David Button's departure earlier this summer.
According to the Charlton website, he will join up with his new team-mates on Monday.
