Aitor Karanka: Says results are the top priority for him

Boro currently lie 16th in the Sky Bet Championship table after winning just three of their opening 15 league games.

Two of those wins came at the Riverside Stadium, with Boro having lost four of seven games on the road.

They have only won once on their travels in 2013, one of the factors that led to chairman Steve Gibson deciding to part company with Tony Mowbray, who has a reputation for wanting his teams to play slick, passing football.

And it doesn't get any easier this weekend, with a tricky trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United on their agenda.

Karanka insists he wants substance over style, however, and admits the result is far more important to him than how it is achieved.

"The best way of playing is when the supporters go back home having seen their team win," he told the Evening Gazette.

"I always laugh at the comment football has to be played the right way, because the right way is to win football matches.

"Yes, we want it to be attractive, we want it to be all the things you want it to be - but it's very rare to get everything you want."
